Effective Web Design Process (Making of my Blog)

What process do you follow when making websites? Having designed and developed websites for over 5 years, I have come to discover a very good process for developing websites. I am a process geek, therefore I believe every activity that must be repeated, must fall within a designed process. That paves way for process innovation.

I will take you though the process of making a good websites. A good website must have the qualities below

  1. Scalable
  2. Dynamic
  3. User Friendly
  4. Accessible
  5. Design-Content Separation
  6. Great Look and Feel

The process involves

  1. Plan your website (or web application)
  2. Sketching Layout on Paper
  3. Design in Graphic Software
  4. XHTMLise (Convert to code with CSS)
  5. Integrate with CMS (or code application)
  6. Optimise (Graphics, Users, Search Engine, Code (detecting bottlenecks))

The process above can be departmentalized in a web design company or department, this way a manager can measure each unit’s performance. For example, I am able to measure how much I spend on each unit, I therefore know when to outsource or who to outsource to.

A web application based on agile methodology can also adopt this process. My subsequent post would take each unit at a time; I would use my Blog as a case study. Check back or share your Web Design methodology with others.

This is a nice piece. At a time when I am planning a redesign of my Christian Ministry website, I believe I could learn some things here.

    Well done!
