That is not necessarily true. For the most part converting a freshwater tank to a saltwater tank is simple. Most of the equipment both tanks use is the same, with only a few notable exceptions. One such exception is the aquarium substrate. Instead of using the gravel that your fresh water fish preferred tropical fish fare better with a substrate that is made of live sand or crushed coral. Most filtering systems work well in both freshwater and saltwater environments, but many aquarium owners take advantage of the opportunity to upgrade their system, i is also important to remember that the filter you are using in your saltwater tank circulates the water throughout the entire tank. Disturbing the water’s surface maximizes the amount of oxygen in the water. If you are planning to maintain a fish only aquarium you shouldn’t have to worry about upgrading your lighting system. The bacteria in saltwater is completely different from the bacteria in freshwater. People who want to speed the waters cycling process should scoop some aquarium substrate from a warm saltwater aquarium and transfer it to a temperate saltwater aquarium.

Tropical fish include fish found in tropical environments (found close to the equator) around the world, including both saltwater and freshwater species. The term tropical fish refer to only those requiring fresh water. Saltwater tropical fish referred as marine fish but to be accurate saltwater fish are truly tropical fish. Tropical fish are imported from there native waters as well as domestically bred. Keeping tropical fish is a great hobby.

How do you decide which tropical fish is best for? An important factor while purchasing tropical fish is the color. Another factor is that far too many people purchase poor health fish. It is very easy to see if the fish is sick, most of sick fish just don’t eat. Don’t be shy and ask the seller to feed the fish before you put your money on it. Sick fish with ich disease or fin rot disease for example are easy to noticed, “Waste” 5 minutes and check your future fish, its skin, behavior and its vitality.

There are few rules we should remember while we keep our tropical fish, first rule is to be patient. A high percentage of people do not take the time to read, learn and study up on the hobby before getting started. Second rule is not to overload the system, placing too many new additions into the tank can cause ammonia and nitrite to rise. The third rule is to remember to maintain our tropical fish tank on a regular basis. By maintaining your tank properly (water changes, test water quality) you can avoid many problems.

There is also the attraction that once the tank is up and running the required effort needed to keep tropical fish is relatively low, in-fact there is hardly any restriction to one’s normal life. Keeping freshwater tropical fish is the ideal starting point to this rewarding hobby and can be done so by almost any age group, even children (best start with the family), with limited supervision.

One advantage of keeping and/or raising tropical fish is the large international community that shares your interest. Keeping tropical fish is a pleasurable hobby for families around the world. Critical part while you acclimate your new tropical fish is to not feed them for at least 24 hours and preferably 48 hrs. Fish tanks are a wonderful place to observe a habitat on a smaller scale. Tropical marine fish enjoy their temperature a little bit warmer at 80 to 82 degrees Fahrenheit (26C). Tropical fish are very colorful and therefore very popular as aquarium fish. Tropical fish tanks have to be constantly monitored for presence of harmful bacteria, fungi, and algae. Tropical fish, just like other fish, have to be fed at least 2 to 3 times a day.

I have tons of goldfish but I keep tropicals too. This is a 30gal tropical tank. Drop a comment I don’t mind. The tattooed mollies were rescued from a person who wanted to flush them alive down a toilet. I do not buy tattooed fish nor do I condone the practice. It is cruel and entirely unnecessary!

How Freshwater Tropical Fish Aquarium Hobbyists Are Adding The Blue Bee Shrimp

According to wholesale tropical fish supplier Gary Smith, of East Coast Tranship, the Blue Bee shrimp is a species that is becoming quite popular with owners of small aquariums. The Blue Bee Shrimp is comparatively new to the shrimp hobby, having first been introduced around March 2008.

This shrimp can be many colors and is occasionally hard to get because it is caught in the wild and is just recently starting to be bred by hobbyists in significant numbers. The Blue Bee is a species found in freshwater streams in China. So far most all of the Blue Bee Shrimp obtained by hobbyists from the pet store trade are wild caught. However, since breeding has begun, captive bred specimens should not take long to hit the hobby shelves.

Breeding the Blue Bee Shrimp

Successful breeding has been reported in a pH range of 6.5 to 6.8 with a temperature of 74 Fahrenheit. These parameters are very similar to the factors required for the Crystal Red Shrimp or Bee Shrimp. Since this is a close relative of those two species, Gary recommends that the same care should be applied to the Blue Bee Shrimp.

Feeding the Blue Bee Shrimp

It is best to do feeding once per day. Only feed an amount of food that the shrimp can finish within 2-3 hours maximum. It is not good to feed in excess and have food sitting for too long. Overfeeding is a known cause of death and can also cause water quality issues. Because shrimp are scavengers in the wild, they will eat anything they can find and are not accustomed to a constant food source.

Most freshwater tropical shrimps are undemanding in their care requirements. They should be kept in a well-established aquarium with no predators. The most important factor for water parameter is stability and as long as none of the water parameters are in the extremes they should be happy and healthy.

Because of the shrimps’ non-aggressive manner and their algae-eating habits, they are also widely popular in natural/planted aquariums. If there is not enough algae present, foods intended for aquarium fish and invertebrates can be used as a supplement to their diet. Another fine supplement is vegetables that have been boiled just until they are soft.

There are a good number of other distinct and colorful species of shrimps that can bring interest to small aquariums such as the Black Crystal Shrimp, Red Cherry Shrimp and the White Spot Shrimp.

Tropical Fish Wholesale Supplier Says… Flowerhorns Are All The Rage Now

Tropical fish wholesale supplier, East Coast Tranship, says Flowerhorns have become all the rage in the past few years. Their prices vary greatly from country to country, and also within the different flowerhorn types. The country which seems the most innovative in producing new strains is BANGKOK Thailand. In our opinion it is also where you will get the most bang for your buck as far as flowerhorns are concerned.

Samples of Flowerhorns From The Supplier

BANGKOK also has a very friendly policy toward customers . . . If you order a box of flowerhorns from BANGKOK and would like a sample of ANYTHING they have to offer they do a thing called “scattering”. After you have finished filling a box from BANGKOK you can request that ONE item be “scattered” in your box. Basically it is a way for you to sample things. Typical examples of scattered items are: expensive flowerhorns, up to 20 pieces of Bettas, or any expensive or new fish. The “scattered” items are individually bagged and simple stuck between the main bags in the box. You are not charged any special fee for this and does not count as a “bag” of fish. It’s just invoiced as a single item. Many customers take advantage of this when it comes to the expensive flowerhorns, for example the Titanium flowerhorn which hit the tropical fish wholesale market about a year ago.

And you can find pictures of these flowerhorn tropical fish and many others in a link in the resource box at the bottom of this article.

Here is a partial list of the tropical fish that you can check out on our blog site noted in the resource box below.
